Hugh Routh Jr.

Hugh Robert Routh Jr., 90, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center, Williston.

His funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the former First Union Church, currently known as the Apostolic Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church, Williston. Interment follows at the Riverview Cemetery.

Hugh Robert Routh Jr. was born in Harrison, Ark., on March 20, 1919. He was oldest of five children born to Hugh Robert Routh Sr. and Eula Katherine (Travis) Routh.

As a young child, Hugh moved with his parents to Belfry, Mont. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Belfry and graduated from Belfry High School in 1937. Hugh worked construction and farming in the Belfry and Red Lodge areas until he enlisted in the Army in January 1942. While serving in the Army, he was based at the Panama Canal and was honorably discharged in October 1945 with the rank of staff sergeant.

After discharge, he worked in the Badger Basin Wyoming oil fields for the Resolute Oil Company.

On April 2, 1946, Hugh married Betty Jane Sinnock in Billings. Three children were born to this union. Hugh and Betty were married for 59 years.

In September 1953, Hugh moved to Williston to work on the construction of the Williston Basin Refinery, which was purchased by the Westland Refinery and later purchased by the Flying J Refinery. He was employed at the refinery for 33 years and retired on Jan. 1, 1986, as plant manager.

Hugh was a member of the First Union Church.

Hugh moved to the Bethel Lutheran Home in February 2009 and was a resident there until his passing.

Hugh enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading (especially his favorite author, Louis L’Amour), playing cards (especially the game of Pitch with his family in Cooke City, Mont.) and watching his Atlanta Braves. Hugh loved his family dearly, and was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hugh is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Routh; one daughter, Susan (LeDosquet) Schladweiler; his mother and father, Hugh and Eula Routh and two sisters, Betty Yount and Jeanne Cenis.

Hugh is survived by one sister, Virginia Van Winkle, Federal Way, Wash.; one brother, Richard Routh, Las Vegas; two sons, Gary (Camille) Routh, and Steve (Lea) Routh, all of Williston; nine grandchildren, Rachelle (Scott) Isaacson, Lake Park, Minn, Craig LeDosquet, Oak Harbor, Wash., Jennifer (Michael) Wood, Guthrie, Okla., Justin (Kendra) Routh, Moorhead, Minn., Joshua DeFoe, Williston, Jacey and Jenna Routh, Williston, Mitchell Schenstad, Bottineau and Tanyr Schenstad, Williston and six great-grand children, Nathan and Whitney Isaacson, Lake Park, Elizabeth LeDosquet, Oak Harbor, Jaron and Garrett Wood, Guthrie and Hudson Routh, Moorhead.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
