The Williston Sea Lions had nine swimmers take part in the State Long Course meet last weekend in Mandan.
The Sea Lions saved their best performances of the season for when it mattered the most. "These swimmers did exceptionally well," said Holly Tkachyk, a member of the Williston Sea Lions board of directors. "Reducing their qualifying times, some by as much as 17 seconds."
Kaitlin Bolinske, Bryn Everson, Katrina Teskey, Katie Tkachyk, Taylor Hedge, Ryen Hedge, Abby McCall, Sylver Lucero and Cassadie Hanson were the swimmers from Williston, who took part in the state meet.
Everson finished the weekend with four first-place finishes in the girls 13- and 14-year-old division. She won in the 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter backstroke, and the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes.
She swam one AA and five A times
Bolinske was first in the girls 17- and 18-year-old division. She swam AA times in six of her eight events.
Bolinske and Everson also qualified to participate in a four-state area zone meet to be held this weekend in Grand Forks.
"The team finished strong under first year coach Patty Lucero," Tkachyk said. "We expect even greater participation in the winter short course season starting in November.
Twelve teams from around the state took part in the meet with West Fargo winning the meet with 64 swimmers. Williston finished seventh in the team standings.
The Bismarck team won a percentage trophy, which is given to the team that scores the most points per swimmers.
Jeff Steele from West Fargo was named Coach of the Year. West Fargo and Bismarck each won the Spirit Team trophy.
