Elaine Beverly Mortensen, born on Aug. 4, 1925, at Kenmare, died two days short of her 84th birthday on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville, Colo.

Her residence for the last 10 years has been 1176 Opal Street, #104, Broomfield, Colo.

She graduated from Williston High School in 1943. She then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., for two years and then transferred to the University of Minnesota, where she obtained a B.S. in home economics.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Christian Mortensen, who died on Jan. 13, 1968, while they lived in Anchorage, Alaska. After his death, the family moved to Williston, where she lived until she moved to Colorado in 1997.

Her parents, Elvin R. Larson and Betsy S.(Wick) Larson, died in Williston in 1994 and 1986 respectively, and lived their entire lives in North Dakota. Elvin, Betsy and Beverly moved to Williston in 1941 from Noonan. Her parents operated the Studebaker and Allis Chalmers farm machinery dealerships for over 30 years. She was married to Andrew C. Mortensen in Williston on May 18, 1950.

She is survived by her son, Ltg. (retired) William E. (Teni) Mortensen, Southport, N.C., and her daughter, Mrs. Jean B.(Timothy) Hynek, Broomfield. She also has three grandchildren, Thomas Hynek, Kathryn Hynek and Marie Hynek, Broomfield.

She will be buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Williston at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009.

There is a memorial service at the Lutheran Church of Hope, Broomfield at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009.

Memorials can be sent to the Lutheran Church of Hope, 1305 West 10th Avenue, Broomfield, Colo., 80020, in her name.
