His funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 at the First Lutheran Church, Williston. The Rev. Steve Anderson is officiating and interment follows at the Our Saviors Cemetery east of Williston.

Harlan Dennis (Bud) Mootz was born Dec. 29, 1933, in McVille to Harvey and Alice (Olson) Mootz. He was raised and educated in McVille and graduated from McVille High School. Upon graduation, Bud joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
Upon discharge from the Army, Bud started work at the lumberyard in Northwood. While living in Northwood, Bud met Lola Hanson and they were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1956. The family later moved to Grand Forks where he began working at the State Mill & Elevator. In 1961, the family moved to Williston, where Bud began work at the Northwest Grain Elevator, where he was employed for 33 years. He retired in 1994.
Bud enjoyed woodworking and he loved to mow his yard with his John Deere mower. He enjoyed attending baseball games in Williston, and would always enjoy a cheeseburger while at the game.
He loved his grandchildren and his great-granddaughters. He was very proud of the accomplishments of everyone in his family.
He was the past president of the Williams Rural Water and was also a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Williston.
Bud is survived by his wife, Lola, Williston; son, Hal Mootz, Williston; daughters, Pam (Daryl) Hodnefield, Minot, Kim (Steve) Johnston, Lake Jackson, Texas, and Monica (Ken) Moore, Richardton; grandchildren, Jade Hodnefield, Grand Forks and Lyndsey (Eric) Hoffer, Fargo, Levi Allard (Janelle Klein) Williston, Chantel (Eli) Puckett, Hazen, Amanda (Ken) Prentice and Jordyn Ford (Garrett Zent), all of Richardton; great-granddaughters, Amara Puckett and Madison Prentice; sisters, Avonne Paintner, Mesa, Ariz., and Sharyn Sundeen, St. Helens, Ore., and sister-in-law, Jeannie Mootz, Lake Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Alice Mootz; brother, Mike Mootz; brother-in-law, Leonard Paintner and granddaughter, Kara Hodnefield.
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. and for the hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday.
