Alan Horsager

Alan Blaine Horsager, 59, a loving husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, lost his battle with colon cancer on July 11, 2009. He passed away at the Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck.

His funeral services are Wednesday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck with the Rev. Dick Owens officiating. Burial is at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, July 21, from 5-9 p.m. at the Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck where a prayer service is at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Alan was born on Sept. 8, 1949, to Blaine and Audrey (Ellingson) Horsager in Edgeley. Alan’s early years were in the Berlin, N.D., area, and he received baptism and confirmation at the Berlin Methodist Church.

He graduated from the Edgeley Public School in 1967.  Alan married Norrine Ann Isaacson on Nov. 2, 1968. They moved to Fargo after their marriage and together they had two wonderful children, Beth Ann and Clay Alan.

Alan attended NDSU and graduated in 1975. After graduation, the family moved to Bismarck and he lived there until his death.

Alan worked for 27 years for J & J/Ortho Pharmaceuticals as a pharmaceutical representative, receiving numerous awards from the company for outstanding sales. He retired from the company in May 2006.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he and Norrine were active in children’s religious education. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, friends and his dog Knight.

He was an avid hunter and angler and spent many hours hunting and fishing with his son, father, brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.

Alan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth Ann (Lt. Col. Robert) Bortree and their children, Emma Ann and James Robert “J.R.”, Boxborough, Mass.; his son and daughter-in-law, Clay Alan (Lori) Horsager and their daughter, Ruby Anna, Fargo; his parents, Blaine and Audrey Horsager, Edgeley; his brothers, Denis (Angie), Valley City, Gary (Sandy), Edgeley and Kevin (Sharon), Reiles Acres, Fargo; his sisters, Beverly Petska, Camp Verde, Ariz., and Karen (Rusty) Savageau, Tempe, AZ; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Muriel Lamp, Fargo, Arden and Sharon Fuher, Edgeley and Spencer and Joann Isaacson, Edgeley; his nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Knight.

He was preceded in death on Dec. 26, 2000, by his wife, Norrine Ann Horsager.
