John Platfers

John (Janis) Platfers passed away on July 1, 2009, at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls.

John was born to Elfrida and Eizens Platfers on Jan. 5, 1947, in Eslingen, Germany. When John was 3 years old, the family moved to Williston.

John grew up and went to school in Williston, graduating from Williston High School in 1965. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy for four years,having spent time in Viet Nam.

On Nov. 29, 1969, John was united in marriage to Shirley Erickson, and they made their home in Williston. He was employed by the United Parcel Service for 20 years.

John enjoyed many activities, including cooking, bowling, dancing, watching football, carpentry work and gardening. He loved his family and he loved making people laugh. His faith in the Lord helped to carry him through difficult times in his life. John is survived by his ex-wife Shirley Platfers, Williston; son, Mike Platfers and his wife, Tami, Fargo; son, Scott Platfers, Fargo and five grandchildren, Kairi Platfers, Shelby Platfers, Aspen Platfers, Samantha Marmon and Christian Marmon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eizens Platfers; mother, Elfrida Platfers; brother, George Platfers and stepfather Ed Vitins.
