Memorial services celebrating Parry’s life are Tuesday, July 7, 2009. The first service is at 10 a.m. (MDT) at the Big Sky Church, Froid. A second memorial service is Tuesday, July 7, at 3 p.m. (CDT) at the Bethel Lutheran Home Chapel, Williston. The Rev. Neil Knudsen is officiating and interment of the cremated remains will take place in the South Froid Cemetery at a later date.
Parry was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Helena, Mont. In 1943, he became the proud son of George and Alma (Johnson) Luebke of Froid. Later, two sisters were born whom he adored and loved to tease. Parry attended Froid School.
In 1959, he went to Bethesda, Md., to the National Institute of Health. There he met Alberta Rhodes of Elkton, Md. In December 1959, Parry joined the Brethren Volunteer Service. While in the Brethren Volunteer Service, he served in New Windsor, Md., and Chicago, Ill.
On Oct. 8, 1960. Parry and Alberta were married in Elkton. Parry made his home in Maryland, working as a heating and air conditioning technician for many years. For the past six years, he was employed with Wal-Mart. After the death of his wife in 2005, he decided to move back to Williston and in February 2006 transferred to the Wal-Mart Super Center here. Parry was an active member of the Mental Alliance of Cecil County in Elkton and an active member of the fire department auxiliary, helping with many fundraisers.
In 1994, Parry went on to get his GED. This was a proud achievement in his life, as he was asked to give the speech for the commencement.
Parry was a member of the Big Sky Church in Froid, where he loved to play the keyboard. Parry loved life and people and he never met a stranger.
Parry is survived by his sisters, Darlene (Jim) Bauer of Williston and Betty Jo (Warren) Bilquist of Homestead, Mont.; nephews, Miky Bauer of Williston, Scott Bauer of Little Canada, Minn., and Shawn (Colette) Bilquist of Bainville; one niece, Stephanie (Levi) Fossum of Homestead; brothers, Charles (Donna) Portis and Brad (Phylis) Portis; sisters, Sandra Praegitzer, Pat (Rick) Staley and Tammy Portis; numerous nieces and nephews, all of the Portland, Ore., area; two special aunts, Vernie Johnson of Williston and Christine Tolbert of Kalispell, Mont.; and brother-in-laws, Gary (Nancy) Rhodes, Wayne (Linda) Rhodes, Burl Rhodes of Maryland, Jerry (Judy) Rhodes and Richard (Donna) Rhodes of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Lee Portis; and his parents.
