BISMARCK ” For nearly two weeks, the Williston Oilers were stuck on three wins on the season.

Win No. 4 finally came on Wednesday afternoon in a 11-2 win over the Bismarck Senators in the nightcap of a Babe Ruth doubleheader in Bismarck.

Chris Barke allowed only three hits in evening his record at 1-1 on the year. He struck out three and threw only 60 pitches in a game shortened to five innings by an agreed upon time limit to facilitate the start of the Keybird game.

“Chris really did a nice job of moving guys off of the plate. They were really trying to dive into pitches, but Chris straightened a couple of guys out with high inside pitches, which allowed him to spot the ball on the outside of the zone,” said Oilers Coach Greg McNary.

The Oilers offense was spearheaded by Evan Conlin. Conlin reached first base all four times he was up,with three walks and a single. He went on to score three times. Kole Marquez belted three hits including a double, and he knocked in two runs as well. Caleb Turcotte, Kenton Carnell and Conner Long each stroked two singles, with Turcotte and Carnell plating three runs each. “It was real nice to swing like we did in the second game,” McNary said. “We had a lot of quality swings from some guys who have been struggling. In particular, Conner Long, Kenton Carnell, and Riley Klevin all did some nice things with the stick today,”

In the nightcap, Starting pitcher Sha eJohnson was victimized by some bad defensive play by the Oilers in a 8-3 loss. Johnson allowed only four earned runs while striking out four and walking only one.

-“Shae deserved a better fate today. He is really starting to compete for us and I couldn’t be any more proud of a young man who has battled some adversity this season,” stated McNary.

The Oilers (4-12) will host the Crosby Cubs Friday at Aafedt Stadium at 5:30 p.m.
