Egge pitches Keybirds to win over Bismarck By Mark Jones/Sports EditorBISMARCK — Williston pitcher Shawn Egge limited the Bismarck Governors to three hits over 6 2/3 innings of work on Wednesday night en route to a Keybirds’ 3-1 in the nightcap of an American Legion baseball doubleheader. Bismarck won the opener by a score of 9-4. But in the nightcap, Egge nearly pitched the complete game. However, he walked two consecutive batters in the seventh after two were out, bringing the potential game-winning run to the plate. At that point, coach Chip Devlin replaced Egge with Alex Hanson, who struck out the lone batter he faced to end the game. Egge got the win, while Hanson was credited with the save. Williston scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Jeff Skadeland tripled in the fourth and scored on a wild pitch. Skadeland also doubled earlier in the game. In the fifth, Casey Gardner doubled and came home on a single by Egge. In the nightcap, Egge hit his eighth home run of the season with a three-run in the seventh. Jon Westphal also hit his eighth double of the season in the fifth and came around Williston’s only other run. The Keybirds (11-10, 2-4) will return to action this evening with a home doubleheader against Wahpeton at 5:30 p.m. Game 1 Williston 000 010 3 — 4 6 2 Bismarck 201 240 x — 9 11 0 Williston pitching Skadeland 4 IP 4 R 6 H 2 BB 4 K 2 HP Vinger 2 IP 1 R I H 1 BB 2 K Game 2 Williston 010 110 0 — 3 7 3 Bismarck 000 010 0 — 1 3 2 Williston pitching Egge 6 2/3 IP 1 R 3 H 6 BB 3 K Hanson 1/3 1K |
