The A’s won by scores of 10-5 and 10-7.
“We made a couple of errors at critical times in both games today to open the flood gates for Mandan. Give them credit, as they really punished us when we made an error,” said Oilers Coach Greg McNary.
In the opener, the A’s scored six times in the second inning to break the game open. Tanner Schaf had the big blow in the inning with a three-run triple.
Chris Junker earned the win for Mandan. He gave up seven hits, while striking out four. Mike Berger had two run-scoring singles to pace Mandan.
Casey Axtman took the loss for Williston, throwing three innings.
He struck out seven and allowed one earned run.
In the nightcap, the A’s scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 10-7 win.
Connor Long had pitched the first five innings. He allowed six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Marcus Fearing suffered the loss in relief for Williston.
Chaz Mosby hit a double and a triple for the Oilers in the loss.
Brady Lysne and Chris Barke each had an RBI single for the Oilers.
“We talked to the kids about concentration and anticipating what to do with the ball before it is hit to you,” McNary said. “The good news is that despite some tough innings defensively, the boys continued to battle with their sticks,”
The Oilers (3-11) will play the Bismarck Reps this afternoon in Bismarck, beginning at noon.
Williston will then return home to face Dickinson on Saturday.
