If a warm summer evening in the park listening to quality music is your idea of a relaxing, enjoyable time, you’re in luck.

You’ll want to head to the Virgil Syverson Performance Center in Harmon Park this evening for quality musical entertainment featuring High Valley, a trio of brothers from Canada.

“You can tell by their bio that they’re a quality group,” said Tom Kvamme of Scope Productions, one of the presenters of the event. “They’re three brothers who sing country Christian music. And it’s not only religious music - down to earth music is a better way of saying it. They’re farm kids who go around and spread the word.”

‘We always describe ourselves as Dierks Bentley as a trio. It’s that new country kind of vibe,’ said Brad Rempel, who along with his brothers Bryan and Curtis comprises High Valley. ‘It’s not as pop as some contemporary country. Our music is a little more organic, a little more acoustic. We grew up singing harmony as a family and in church. There was always harmony and acoustic instruments, so our live show features a mandolin, an acoustic guitar, a bass guitar and three part harmony.”

The Canadian trio has opened shows for Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire, earning a solid reputation as a must-see live act. High Valley’s last album, “Broken Borders,” was Album of the Year at the 2007 GMA Canada Covenant Awards in the country category. Their hit “Back to You” was honored as Country Song of the Year. High Valley has also been among the nominees for Group of the Year at the Nashville-based Inspirational Country Music Awards. “Our goal has always been to show the light of Jesus Christ to the world," said Brad. "We want to offer a positive, faith-based version of the new country sound. That’s why we play a lot of mainstream festivals, sharing stages with Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Brad Paisley.”

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. with Brian Salveson, Jeff Nelson and Miss Oil Country Allison Salveson each singing a few numbers. High Country takes the stage at 8.

“They’ll sing for an hour and a half,” Kvamme said. “The whole idea behind it is (the evening of music in the park), when we built the center we wanted to provide some quality concerts. We feel we are accomplishing that with this group. It’s just a good opportunity to use the park and use the facility. It’s not everyday you’re going to be able to land a group like this.”

He said a free-will offering is to be taken to help offset the costs of the concert. Dominos Pizza and other refreshments will be available.

The concert is presented by Tofte Brothers Construction Inc., Scope Productions, First International Bank and Trust and Industrial Equipment.
