Finishing out strong

HANKINSON — Williston High School golfer shot a final round of 81 on Wednesday to finish with a two-day total of 172 to finish in a tie for 34th place at the Class A state meet at the Dakota Winds Golf Course in Hankinson.

"He had a few shots left on the course," said Williston High School coach Dennis Healy. "If he had been able to pick those shots up, he would have had a spectacular round, but instead he had a great one."

Mahar posted a 39 on the front nine, while shooting a 42 on the back half in the final day of tournament action.

"He played much better golf," Healy said. "He was able to stay out of trouble."

Kyle Jandro, of Fargo South, shot a two-day total of 151 to claim the individual state title. Minot's Cody Duchscherer finished in a tie for second with Wahpeton's Dylan Ferrell for second.

Fargo South shot a two-day total of 616 to win the team title. Wahpeton was second at 639, while Fargo West finished third.

Weather was less of a factor in the final round of the state meet.

"It was a much nicer day to golf," Healy said. "We didn't have the wind or the cold."
