Williston golf finishes third at own invite

The Williston High School golf team capped a busy weekend with arguably its best round of the season, shooting a 338 to finish third at the Williston Invitational on Saturday at the Links of North Dakota east of Williston. "The kids bounced back," said Williston golf coach Dennis Healy. "This is their home course, and the kids did a good job of defending their home field."

On Friday at Minot, the Coyotes shot a 364 to finish seventh out of eight teams.

On Saturday, players had to battle a steady cold wind that sent several shots into the rough, never to be found in the allotted time of five times.

“The wind and cold were a factor,” Healy said.

McCade Evanson shot a 82 on Saturday to pace the Coyotes to the third-place finish. B.J. Mahar finished the round with a 83, including a 41 on the front nine.

Bismarck won Saturday's team title with a 315, while Minot was a distant second at 334.

Williston’s Gabe Bjerke, Dustin Dube and James Tajera competed in an exhibition round in Saturday’s action.

Williston will compete at Jamestown on Friday and at Rolla on Saturday with Turtle Mountain hosting Saturday’s meet.
