His funeral will be celebrated by the Rev. David Halaas at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston. Interment follows at St. Paul Cemetery, northwest of Williston.
Michael was born Nov. 12, 1957, to Fred and Patsy (Nelson) Ellis in Williston. He was educated in Williston and was a graduating member of the Class of 1976. Mike was united in marriage to Twila Denton July 8, 1977. To this union four children were born. This marriage ended in divorce.
In November 2006, Mike met and fell in love with Dawn Storoe.
Michael attended college in Wahpeton, where he earned an associate of applied science in computer systems technology, and at UND in Grand Forks where he earned a bachelor of science in airway science. Michael worked most recently for M/D Totco of Williston. Over the years. Michael worked in the oilfield, drove truck and worked in the computer science field.
Mike was an avid model airplane builder and flyer. He loved model airplanes so much that his vanity plates on his pickup read: “RCFLYER1”! This love for airplanes led to him to become a licensed pilot.
Mike played games and cards of all kinds. Always ready to play, every Tuesday night he could be found playing poker at the Sports Den.
Science fiction movies, TV shows and books have been an interest since he was a child. Mike also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Patches and Suede, and cats, Sasquatch, and Felix. Patches and Suede have found loving homes with Mike’s children, Melissa and Eric.
Having been a single father of four children, Mike was most admired by those who knew him. He loved his family. Mike’s life was dedicated to doing whatever he could to make his family enjoy life.
Mike’s laugh was loud and infectious; and surprisingly enough so was his mother’s!!!
Michael is survived by his fiancee, Dawn (Hunny Bunches) Storoe of Williston; his children, Melissa (Dean) Buechler, Mandan, Nathan (Lisa) Ellis, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Jennifer (Jason Doak) Ellis, Grafton, Eric (Cassie Saville) Ellis, Grand Forks and Rachael Vaughn, Williston; his sisters, Donna Johnson and Cindy (Leonard) Peltier, both of Williston; his grandchildren, Sarah Buechler, Anthony Beach, Brittany Buechler, Michael Buechler, Annie Elizabeth Dexheimer, Sebastian Doak, Ethan Doak and Tannyn Vaughn; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Ellis; mother, Patsy Ellis; sister, Lori Ellis; brother, E. Brian Ellis and a good friend, Wayne Lawrence.
