The Williston High baseball team used small ball to put up big numbers on Monday against Beulah at Sidney in a doubleheader sweep.

The Coyotes (2-2, 1-1 WDA) won the first game 18-2 in six innings for a conference victory, then won the non-conference follow-up 9-4 in five innings.

The Coyotes hit five sacrifice flies in the first game and two in the second.

"That's just part of the game, even moreso with the wood bats," said coach Brad Westphal. "The kids have to get runners home." Shortstop Alex Hanson reached base four times from the leadoff spot, Austin Grundstad had a double and a triple, and Jon Westphal provided the big bat with five RBIs, including a pair of two-run doubles.

The Coyotes took a 9-1 lead into the sixth inning, then blew the game open with nine more in the sixth. Alex Hanson pitched four shutout innings for the Coyotes, striking out four and allowing just two hits and one walk. Shawn Egge struck out a pair in two innings to finish the game.

Williston got on the board quickly with four in the top of the first, with sacrifice flies from Casey Gardner and Westphal as well as RBI singles from Jordan Nelson and Tyler Eiken. Hanson added a sac fly in the second, and Westphal drove a bases-loaded double off the wall in right field to cap a four-run fifth.

The Coyotes sent 14 batters to the plate in the sixth, with Grunstad and Westphal each hitting RBI doubles.

"I felt like I could hit pretty well today," Grundstad said.

The Coyotes fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of the second game, but turned it around with five in the top of the second.

Eiken pitched three strong innings for the Coyotes, striking out three and allowing an unearned run. CJ Vinger was on base four times with a single and three walks, and Derrick Linghor went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
