Dustin Miles Besler, 27, died Feb. 21, 2009, in Roundup, Mont. Dustin started his life journey just before midnight on Sept. 7, 1981 in Hettinger. He was born to Monte Besler and Melrene (Besler) Soiseth on his mother’s birthday following 70 dusty miles of a frantic cross-country trip from the Labor Day celebration in Buffalo, SD. Dustin was the third child born into an existing family of two older brothers. This entrance was just one of many memorable moments he would make in his life.

Dustin lived in Dickinson with his parents and brothers until 1987. During this time, he and his two older brothers were joined by another brother in 1983 and his only sister in 1986.

Dustin spent many enjoyable summers at his paternal grandparent’s farm near Reva, S.D. This was a special time for him and he spoke often and fondly of those experiences throughout his life. He loved playing with the farm animals and pets and could often be found carrying a cat or kitten under each arm or trying to return a fallen baby bird to its nest. In 1987, Dustin moved with his family to Williston, where his father had been transferred in the oilfield. There he attended elementary school at Wilkinson Elementary. Again, Dustin spent time with his grandparents in South Dakota during the summer.

In 1993, his parents divorced and Dustin moved back to Dickinson to live with Melrene (Besler) Soiseth and his siblings. Dustin was joined by two more brothers, one born in 1993 and another in 1995. During this time he attended school at Heart River Elementary and Hagen Middle School.

His father, Monte Besler, still living in Williston, married Judy (Adam) Besler in 1994 and with that he gained three step-brothers. Dustin enjoyed spending time relaxing while fishing and being in the outdoors. During this time he successfully completed the Hunter Safety course, a proud moment for him. He also graduated from a farm safety course so he could help on his grandparent’s farm and obtained a GED from Bismarck High.

Dustin loved working hard and found employment in the cement construction business. Just as in fishing and his other outdoor activities, Dustin seemed to enjoy outside work where you might get dirty, but he could see the sky and world around him.

He was loved by many from all parts of his life, and a kind-hearted fun loving soul, something this hardened young man would never admit, but those who truly knew him, were well aware. He loved spending time with his children and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan right down to their team colors.  He could play a very good game of chess and had a smile that would cut through anyone’s defenses.

It was while working near Roundup at the job he loved and in the outdoors he loved that Dustin Miles Besler left us behind, while he completed the remainder of the life journey he had started some 27 years earlier on the dusty roads of South Dakota. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Dustin is survived by his four children, daughter Alaina, son Miles, daughter Jozlyn and son Schuyler; his mother, Melrene (Besler) Soiseth and stepfather, Greg Soiseth (Dickinson); his father, Monte Besler and stepmother Judy Besler (Williston); brothers, Marshall Besler (Dickinson), Nathan Besler (Farmington, Minn.), Sterling Besler (Dickinson), Levi Soiseth (Dickinson) and Lane Soiseth (Dickinson); sister, Amber Besler (Dickinson); stepbrothers, Jason Adam (Kill, Miss.), Christopher Adam (Williston) and Steven Adam (Grand Junction, Colo.); paternal grandmother, Ellen Besler (Spearfish); maternal grandparents, Leland and Kay Carlson (Dickinson) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dustin was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Lucille and Hubert Coffield and paternal great-grandparents Julia and Christ Besler; maternal great-grandparents, Agnes and Emil Carlson and maternal great-grandparent, Lyle Markegard; paternal grandparent, Elmer Besler, and paternal great-uncle Rex Besler.
