Robin Hanson, 43, passed away on Jan. 20, 2009. at her home in Escondido, Calif., after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Robin Clair Hanson was born July 31, 1965, in Wolf Point, Mont. She attended elementary and middle school in Williston before moving with her family to Burns Flat, Okla., in 1979. She graduated from Burns Flat High School in 1983 and attended college in Weatherford, Okla. before moving to California in 1986. She was employed as an auditor at the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido for 18 years.

Robin will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit and engaging smile, for her love of her daughter and grandson, for her beautiful beadwork, and for her willingness to engage in anything fun with her nieces and nephews.

After being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2003, Robin was determined not to let her life be defined by this illness. She lived as fully as possible, and found special joy in spending time with her grandson, being outside, visiting the ocean, going to Disneyland (she was motivated by her unexpired Park Hopper Pass), vacationing in Washington, D.C. and Hawaii, going to see Willie Nelson in concert in Reno, Nev., and engaging in other everyday tasks that are usually taken for granted.

Robin is survived by her daughter, Miranda Mendez, grandson, Jason Mendez, and mother, Judith Claire, of Escondido; her father and stepmother, Harvey and Judi Hanson, of Oceanside, Calif.; sisters, April Bird and her family (Kathy, Sam and Katie Bird, of Vista, Calif., and Jamie, Brad and Megan Baker, of Tulsa, Okla.); Kelly Anseth and her family (Lloyd, Jessica and Andrew, of Owings, Md.); brother, Steven Hanson and his family (Janice, Eddie, Shelley, Tyler, Hank, Chasity, Crystal and Zachary, of Independence, Mo.); stepsister, Dawn Molina and her family (Frank, Cisco, Mason, Sawyer and the late Quinton, of Carlsbad, Calif.); stepbrother, Denny Newell, Anaheim, Calif.; former brother-in-law, Duane Baker of Fittstown, Okla., and her aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Anna Hanson, and Gerald and Hazel Thomas, all of the Wolf Point, Mont., area.

In accordance with Robin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of her life was held at Kit Carson Park in Escondido on Friday, Jan. 30. Memorial donations in Robin’s name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the San Diego Hospice, 4311 3rd Ave., San Diego, Calif., 92103.
