The NDHSAA board presented a proposal last week to realign high school volleyball and basketball into a three-class system for the 2010-11 school year.

The latest proposal to introduce a three-class system drop Fargo Shanley and Bismarck St. Mary’s from the top level to join 30 of the current Class B’s largest schools in a new middle tier.

New Town and Watford City would be among the schools in the middle region, dubbed Class A. Williston High would compete in Class AA, and the remaining area schools would stay in Class B.

A final decision on the proposal will be made in April. The idea is to streamline the postseason by eliminating district tournaments and holding boys and girls postseasons at the same time.

Watford City athletic director Randy Cranston said his school is against the move, as it was in previous three-class proposals.

"I have to be honest we're not in favor of it,” Cranston said. “We're supporters of the system we have right now, we'd like to see that continue."

Crantston said the district tournaments are an important source of revenue for the towns and schools that host them.

" Absolutely! We not only have kids in Trenton that work hard on their athletics year round, but MOST importantly, their academics too. Shame on you BB FAN for pointing your finger chastizing people to "know what their talking about" when you most certainly had no clue. "

" WC plays Dix. Trinity, Bowman, Hazen, Beulah, New Town (which is bigger) twice, and Williston Trinity thoughout their season every year. You think the wolves are scared of competition? You are wrong!! They play the toughest schedule year in and year out. How would you like to be the only team in the central time zone of your district along with traveling about 2 hours to each game one way?? Include the travel the athletes do when they get back home many of them live 25-30 miles in the opposite direction of where they would have came from if you threw them in Region 7 and District 14. In the 3 class proposal WC would not be in the southern portion they would go to Botno, Minot Ryan, Velva, DLB, New Town, Rugby, and Harvey. Before you bash a school that works hard at having great academics and athletic programs you should know what you are talking about. Many of these kids are dedicated to their sports year round. Are they in Ray and Trenton (not to bash those schools, those are just the ones you listed) "

" I'm not surprised that WC is not for this plan, because that way they would have to face schools their size in competition rather than schools like Ray and Trenton...How dare you try to put me in a conference with Dickinson Trinity!! "
