BY THE WILLISTON HERALD

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office notifies the general public that Shane Richard Buck, 34, of 123 East St., in Grenora, is a registered sex offender.

According to the North Dakota Century Code 12.1-32-15, law enforcement agencies are required to disclose relevant and necessary registration information when a sexual offender registered under this section is a public risk and public disclosure of the registration is necessary for public protection.

Buck is identified as a high-risk offender, as stated in a press release.

Buck has been convicted of a crime against a child or an attempted crime against a child, or has pleaded guilty to a sexual offense. In accordance with North Dakota State Law, Buck must register as a sexual offender or an offender against children. Buck is not wanted by law enforcement officers at this time, as he served the sentenced ordered by the court.

This notification is not intended to increase fear in the community, but it is to inform the general public.

“It is the belief of the Williams County Sheriff’s Office that an informed public is a safer public,” cites the press release.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office has no control over where sex offenders chose to reside, work, socialize or go to school unless the court deems necessary to place restrictions on the offender’s daily activities.

Risk level of the offender is based on factual criminology information provided by the courts, prosecutors, probation/parole officers, case files, offender treatment files and/or other law enforcement agencies.

Convicted sex offenders and offenders against children are always released back into society once their correctional time expires. However, law enforcement officers have a mechanism in place to track these individuals. In addition, law enforcement officers have the authority and duty of notifying the public of an offender’s movements if they determine the offender poses a risk to the public’s safety.

Still, this information is for safety reasons only and law enforcement officers will not tolerate the abuse of information released on the offender.

Your personal safety and the safety of your family are important to the Williams County Sheriff’s Office.

To report any suspicious or criminal activity, call the Sheriff’s Office at 577-7700.
