Marvin passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mott.

Marvin Basaraba was born March 6, 1935, to John and Anna (Gulka) Basaraba on the family farm in Stark County. He grew up on the family farm outside of Belfield and attended the area country school.

He moved to Belfield in 1947 and during this time he worked on various farms in the area. He later worked at B & K Electric before starting Marv’s Electric in the early 1970s. Through the years, Marvin worked at several other electric companies throughout the state.

After retiring, Marvin made his home in Belfield. In March of 2007 he moved to Good Samaritan Home in Mott, where he will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Marv’s family would like to thank everyone at Good Samaritan Home for all their help. Marvin loved playing all types of card games where it was always “Marv’s Rules.” He collected John Deere tractors and built miniature hobby farms to scale. He was a great carpenter, master electrician, and used both to build his own shop. Marvin also enjoyed bowling and watching his beloved Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his mother Anna Basaraba, Williston; two sons: Doug Basaraba, Dickinson and Bruce (Jackie) Basaraba, Bismarck; three daughters: Karen Thrams, Sidney, Mont., Linda (Kevin) Grina, Bismarck and Connie Basaraba, Bismarck; brothers: John (Elaine) Basaraba, DeBary, Fla., and Jim (Jackie) Basaraba, Williston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Marvin is preceded in death by his father, John, and two sisters: Dorothy Clark and Doraleen Mackenzie, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
