Art was born May 22, 1937, in Crosby to Haaken and Hazel (Hunt) Kaldahl, the 12th of 15 children. Art was raised in Crosby and lived with his parents. In 1960, after his mother’s death, Art moved to the Grafton State School. For the 24 years that Art lived at Grafton, he enjoyed working on the school farm.

Art moved to Williston in 1984 and brought his love of outdoor work with him. He became a partner in a lawn-mowing service, RT Enterprises, and continued providing lawn care when that operation became part of Opportunity Foundation. Art continued working with Opportunity Foundation, most recently at the Recycling Center, until ill health forced him to retire. For nearly 25 years, Art’s many co-workers and staff at Opportunity provided a community of friendship, love and care. All who knew Art also knew his love for animals, his joy at spending time outdoors and fishing and his deep loyalty to his friends. His love of horses, farming and rodeos was made clear in his tradition of always wearing a cowboy hat.

Art is survived by two brothers, Glen and Gary Kaldahl; and by two sisters, Lucille Dunn and Sally Tankere.

Art was preceded in death by his mother and father; by his brothers, Robert, Earl, Dale and Clinton; by his sisters, Ruth Dietz, Jean Lunde and Gale Tankere; and by a brother and two sisters who died in childhood, Olaf, Helen and Sylvia. His dear friend, Karen, whom Art met in Grafton and who also relocated to Williston, died in January 2008.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
