The Williston Fire Department was busy this weekend with two fires.

A trailer house in Williston’s Glenn Villa Mobile Home Park was destroyed by fire Sunday morning after the owner tried to thaw pipes with a blow torch.

Williston Fire Department Chief Alan Hanson said the fire department was dispatched at 11:31 a.m. to 2610 10th Ave. W. and the residence owned by Coal Renolds. Hanson added four EMS personnel responded as well.

At that time, the fire was under the trailer and had moved inside into the attic space, Hanson said.

He said it took approximately 90 minutes to stop the fire, Hanson said. Although the trailer is a total loss, 80 percent of personal belongings were salvaged, he said. Renolds had attempted to put out the fire before calling the fire department, Hanson said.

On Saturday at 6:22 p.m., the fire department was called to a townhouse at 2817 21st Ave. W. because of a ceiling fan that caught fire.

The fire extended into the attic, and firefighters had to cut out the ceiling of the bathroom to extinguish the fire, Hanson said.

The townhouse is owned by Gary Engmann, and one of his employees is living in the residence and was in it at the time of the fire.

The fire was contained to the bathroom, and there were about $5,000 in damages, he said.

There were no injuries, and it took about an hour to put out the fire, Hanson said.

" I think our fire department deserve a heart-felt thanks for working as hard as they do... especially considering the weather conditions and how difficult they make fighting fires. "
