A one-vehicle, head-on collision resulted in the death of a Cartwright resident and the injury of a pedestrian on Saturday afternoon.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that Edward Burns, 68, was travelling north on McKenzie County Road 1 one mile south of North Dakota Highway 68 when he struck a workover rig with the 2009 Honday van he was driving.

Aaron Jung, 33, of Minot, was driving the workover rig at the time of the accident and was not injured. Burns struck the workover rig in the front left corner as it was parked facing south with flag vehicles in front and in the rear of the workover rig.

Burns also struck Dean Vigen, 31, of Mohall, who was standing outside of the driver's door of the workover rig.

Burns was pronounced dead at the Sidney Health Center. The North Dakota Highway Patrol, the McKenzie County Sheriff's Office, the Richland County Sheriff's Office and the Richland County Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Burns' van was totaled.
