Edward Dodge

Edward Dodge, 86, Watford City, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Nursing home in Watford City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City. The Rev. Chris Montgomery will officiate and interment will follow at the Schafer Cemetery.

Edward Guy Dodge was born to Clarence and Elsie (Alexander) Dodge on the family ranch near Demick Lake, N.D., on July 27, 1922. Ed was raised on the ranch and attended Dodge School through the eighth grade and then Watford City High School.

Ed worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) near Medicine Lake, Mont., for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was stationed in California, Hawaii and the Bikini Atoll, where he participated in atomic bomb testing. Ed was discharged from the Navy in 1946.

While attending the Sanish Rodeo, Ed met Carol Swanson. They were married at the Lutheran Church in Sanishon Nov. 13, 1949. Ed worked for the Telfred Anderson ranch until 1951, when he moved to Belfield to work for Northern Pump until 1961. In 1964, Ed and his family moved to the Mandaree area, where he ranched for the next seven years.

The family then moved to Berthold for a short time, then returned to the Watford City area. Ed worked for the Watford City Post Office and at the McKenzie County Courthouse. He retired from the courthouse in 1988 and retired from the post office in 1998 after 25 years on his mail route.

Working with cattle and carpentry were hobbies of Ed’s. He also enjoyed attending his son’s and grandchildren’s basketball and football games.

Surviving Ed are his Wife, Carol, of Watford City; five sons, Farley (Donna), of Janesville, Wis., Cameron (Jan) of Keene, Mark (Cynthia), of Salt Lake City, Utah, Guy, of Watford City, and Scott, of Williston; one sister, Helen Jorgenson, of Keene; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ed in death are his parents, Clarence and Elsie; four brothers, Charles, William, Donald and Lawrence; and two sisters, Mabel and Myrtle.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City on Monday, Dec. 1, from 12-6 p.m., on Tuesday from 9 a.m until noon and for the hour preceding the service at the church.
