The Williston Coyotes volleyball team closed its season with a victory to earn seventh place at the state volleyball tournament in Minot on Saturday.

The Coyotes defeated Bismarck St. Mary’s in three straight games, 25-19, 26-24, 25-22.

“They played really well today,” said coach Haley Jeannotte. “Once we got our defense going, we started doing really well.”

Megan Torgerson had 15 kills for the Coyotes, and Katelyn Christensen had 19 digs.

The Coyotes lost in the consolation semifinals to Fargo North 25-20, 25-11, 26-28, 25-9. “We’d have a few points on them, then we’d just give up too many points in a row and lose the momentum,” Jeannotte said. “We did win the third game against them.”

The Coyotes’ season is now completed.

“I hope the girls feel good about it (the season),” Jeannotte said. “It was definitely up-and-down.”

Megan Torgerson and Rachel Rachel Hennessy have been invited to play in next year’s Optimist’s All-Star Game, with Katelyn Christensen being selected as an alternate.

State tournament awards were not available at press time.

In Class B action on Saturday, Thompson swept Stanley 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 in the seventh-place match on Saturday.
