Edith Mae Haas was born Dec. 12, 1928, to Ted and Bertha (Braun) Haas in Turtle Lake. She attended the Turtle Lake schools and went to Jamestown College, where she received her education degree. She taught in schools at Ashley and Williston.

On a blind date in Williston, she met Dick Broschat, an engineer with the Amerada Hess Petroleum Corporation. They were married on Oct. 18, 1953. Over the next 10 years they moved six times, living in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma before transferring back to Williston in 1963. With Edie’s help and encouragement, Dick left Amerada and started a consulting engineering firm in 1976. Edie worked as his secretary and board member of Broschat Engineering for many years.

Edie and Dick shared a love of traveling and a love of people. They traveled to 45 different countries. One of their trips was a Bible distribution trip to Russia in 1998 after communism fell. They also lived in China in 1993 and 1996, where Edie taught American customs and social skills while Dick taught Chinese engineers.

Edie was also one of the founding members of Christian Women’s Club in Williston and for several years spoke to different groups in Montana and North Dakota. She also ministered to women at the State Women’s Prison in New England through a Christian ministry.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milton and Vergil Haas; daughter, Edith Ann Honold; son-in-law, Gerhard Honold; granddaughter, Hanna Honold; and daughter-in-law Mari (Halbakken) Broschat.

She is survived by her husband, Dick of Williston; son, John (Lydia) Broschat of Williston; and daughter Mary (Pete) Anderson of Moorhead; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and numerous friends in Williston and different parts of the world.

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 1-5 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
