Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at home with the Jamestown JV in the Coca-Cola Tip-off tournament, the Tetons begin finding out how well that skill translates into success.
Coming off a 22-10 season and with new coach Hunter Berg, the Tetons are looking for the right mix of players from a deep roster.
"We want to be competitive in the conference," Berg said. "We do have a talented roster, but we have to figure out which of these guys play well together. We're pretty young."
Berg said the team's offensive identity is taking shape in practice. "We're a perimeter-oriented team," Berg said. "We have a good mix of guards."
Two key returning players are the Packineau brothers, twins Neil and Nathaniel. The pair of 6-foot-1 sophomore guards from Parshall play the wings and contribute to the team's outside shooting threats. The two each shot 37 percent from three-point range last season.
The two have a lot of similarities in their game.
"He's probably a little quicker, I'm a little bit better of a set shooter," Neil Packineau said.
Nathaniel said it's fun playing with his brother.
The team features four Williston products. Jarek Hansen joins the team from Trinity Christian, and Mike Delorme, Jordan Braun and Cameron McFarlin are from Williston High School.
The Tetons are counting on depth to carry them into the postseason. The roster features 16 players, 11 of them new, with playing time still to be decided.
"We're a lot deeper than last year," Neil Packineau said. "We've got a lot of shooters."
There are plenty of chances to see the Tetons play this season. Their 31-game regular-season schedule includes 18 home games. Berg hopes these home games let the inexperienced team ease into college play.
