If it takes care of business, they won't be back.
The Coyotes (5-3, 4-2 WDA) are tied for third in the West with the tiebreaker advantage over Minot, whom they defeated last week.
St. Mary's runs the same spread offense that has led the Coyotes to the third-highest scoring offense in Class AAA.
"They're a dangerous team right now," said WHS coach Todd Matthews. "They've been putting up a lot of yards. They have a quarterback that's tough to contain." The Coyotes are looking to enter the playoffs with the momentum of a potential five-game winning streak.
"This is a must-win for us," Matthews said.
A win on Wednesday would earn them the third seed and a likely trip to Bismarck Century on Nov. 1. A loss, combined with a Minot win, would leave them in the fourth seed and likely hosting Jamestown in a play-in game.
The Coyotes hold the tiebreaker over Minot because of their victory against them last week, but lost to Bismarck Century earlier in the season. In a three-way tie, which would happen if Minot and Williston win and Century loses to Bismarck tonight, Century would still win the No. 2 seed by the point-differential tiebreaker. Century can only fall to third if it loses, Williston loses and Minot wins.
