"With the rain, there is more leaks inside, more ceiling tiles wet, more wall paper wet," said Slais, who emphasized the rain caused more water damage. "We've got the buckets out again because (water) finds one hole and runs on the length of the library."
Slais said roofers are onsite and are moving quickly to fix the roof.
"They are trying to keep up with it as much as they can – it's not as bad as it was a little while ago – but the rain sure didn't helps us any," she said.
The library remains closed until the new roof is finished at the end of this week. "I wish I could say a date when we are going to be open, but – if it rains or the roofers aren't done – I really can't. There is damage in here, and we just have to contain that, rather than open to the public," said Slais.
At this point, the roof over the meeting room and children's area is complete. A restoration cleaning company also recently visited the library and concluded the carpet could be restored. However, some ceiling tiles, wall paper and sheet rock need to be replaced.
Slais said there is only slight damage to some books and bookcases, which remain covered with plastic.
The library closed its door last week after melted snow infiltrated into almost every corner of the facility, which had minor roof leaks for over two years.
