Coyotes prep for playoff push

The playoff push begins for the Williston Coyotes football team, which has clinched a spot and now has six days to see who it will play and where it will go.

The regular season ends with a trip to Minot tonight at 7 p.m., and a home game with St. Mary's on Wednesday.

"They are a big, physical team that are going to run the ball," said coach Todd Matthews. "They have a nice fullback-tailback combination, and we have to make sure we can take care of the gadget plays."

The Coyotes will be playing two games in six days, the quick turnaround potentially taxing a team that already has many key players playing both ways.

"You just don't try to prepare for it," Matthews said. "You try to stay healthy through that stretch and let the chips fall where they may. You stay focused."

The Coyotes are 3-2 in the WDA, and they have clinched at least the fifth and final playoff spot. With two games to play, the Coyotes need one win to secure home-field in the first round, and two wins to have a chance at a bye directly to the second round.

The Coyotes enter tonight one game behind Minot, so that winning would pull them into a tie and give them a tiebreaker advantage.

Mandan is trailing the Coyotes for the fourth spot in the WDA, one game behind at 2-3. WHS would only fall to the fifth spot with two losses and two Mandan wins.
