Marlin was born May 17, 1939, on the farm in Coulee, N.D., the son of Adolph and Eleanor (Haugen) Anderson. He grew up in the Coulee area and attended Crowford and Sedonia primary school and Kenmare high school, graduating in 1957.
Marlin worked for a year before volunteering for the draft in to the United States Army on Feb. 11, 1958, where he served in Korea. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 10, 1960.
Following his discharge, Marlin remained on active duty until 1964, during that time he worked as a mechanic for John Deere in Kenmare, until he moved to Stanley. Marlin was united in marriage to Julie Klassen on Oct. 8, 1961, in Bowbells. He started working at the Ford Motors Company in Stanley as a mechanic.
Marlin worked for 17½ years for Amerada Hess in Tioga and Watford City, as well as being a part-time farmer. In 1981, they moved to Sidney and Marlin started working for Cenex Exploration as a production superintendent. Cenex was sold to Flying J, then sold to Nance Petroleum and eventually became St. Mary's Land and Exploration, where he worked until his death.
Marlin was a member of the Sidney Country Club, The Health Works and the V.F.W. Post #4099 of Sidney. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Marlin was very active in the Jaycees in his young years. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, racquetball, exercising and work, and in his younger years playing the guitar.
Marlin died on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at his home in Sidney.
Surviving him are his wife, Julie Anderson, Sidney; his son, Mark Anderson, Rapid City, his children, Brooke and Logan; their mother, Jodi Anderson, all of Rapid City; his daughter, Nancy (Roger) Mitchell, The Dalles, Ore., her daughter, Danielle "TJ" Glenn, her father Greg Glenn, all of The Dalles; his brothers, Adrian Anderson, Tioga, and Robert (Eunice) Anderson, Brook Shire, Texas; his sisters, Eileen Atwood, Wolf Point, Mont., and Margaret Hanson, Grape View, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; twin daughters, Julie and Jo, and brother, Clarence Anderson.
