Memorial service for Evelyn Adeline Tucker.

Oct. 23, 1927-July 31, 2008.

The life of Evelyn Tucker.

Evelyn was born Sept. 23, 1972, in Firtile, Valley Township, N.D. The daughter of Cornelius and Gertrude Larson, Evelyn was the sixth of eight children and grew up on the family farm outside of Grenora.

Having lost her mother at an early age, her older siblings played a larger role in raising her. She loved her large Norwegian family as they loved her. In 1946, after graduating from Grenora High School, Evelyn's older brother, Harold, invited her to join him in Silverton. She settled in and remained in Silverton until moving to the Mt. Angel Towers in December 2007. Evelyn's working career was in the secretarial and bookkeeping field. She started at Kolstad Cannery and over the years, worked for Dr. Van Cleave, Cooley's Gardens, Dr. Davies, Willamette Lutheran Homes, Dr. Melgard and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Evelyn married Silverton native Glenn Tucker on Sept. 26, 1948. They were blessed with twin sons, Jon and Steve, in August of 1949. Thirteen months later, on her birthday, Evelyn gave birth to her daughter, Pamela, and always said she was "the best gift she ever received."

Life for Evelyn was all about family and her service to her church and her community. Upon retirement, Glenn and Evelyn became full-time RVers, traveling the country exploring and visiting family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking bread, going for walks, volunteering for the SMART reading program at Eugene Field School, the Silverton Food Bank and N.W. Medical Teams.

She held various offices in her church, enjoyed the quilting guild, women's circle and singing in the choir. A perfect day for Grandma Evelyn would be to gather her granddaughters up and spend the day making lefse. A perfect weekend would be to take the grandkids camping.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Glenn; sons, Jon and his wife Karen, Steve and his wife Marie; daughter, Pamela and son-in-law Larry Mattison; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and her older sister Joyce Armstrong.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Aug. 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation at 1501 N.W. 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla., 33136-1494, or to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lester, Cecil, Harold and Eugene, and her sisters, Elaine and Eleanor.
