Planning approves several proposals

At a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Monday night, a series of public hearings took place. The first two were combined, as they both pertained to the same project. After the first hearing, the board approved a proposed amendment to the Future Land Use plan from Industrial classification to residential for Lots 4 and 5, Block 1 of the Jim Bridger Subdivision. The request came from Community Development, Inc.

The commission also approved a proposed zone change from M-3: Industrial Park to R-3: Lowrise, Multi-Family Residential for Lots 4 and 5, Block 1 of the Jim Bridger Subdivision, also requested by Community Development, Inc. Board members requested a few more trees to provide a sufficient buffer for the area, and this was agreed upon and put into the motion.

Bob Smith of Hutchinson Smith Architects in Boise, ID was there representing Water's Edge Unity Partnership and their parent company, Community Development, Inc. to speak about both the comprehensive plan and the rezone request.

Community Development does these type of projects all across the country, primarily in the northwest and midwest. and the property will be made into low income housing.

Currently there is a sale pending from the city of Williston to Community Development, Inc. for those parcels, and their intent is to replat the entire subdivision to the northwest with two lots into one single parcel for low income housing.

The board also approved:

  • A proposed change from A: agricultural to M-1: Light Industrial of an unplatted parcel located in Section 19, T154N, R100W, in the city of Williston

  • A proposed preliminary plat for Sublot 8 and 9, located in the SW1/4, Section 22, T154N, R101W, in the Williston Township Subdivision

  • A request to allow for a Home Occupation at 717 Main for a proposed Firearm Dealer

  • A final plat of the Saddle Ridge Subdivision, located in the N1/2 Section 3, T154N, R101W, in the Williston township; contingent upon execution of the Hold Harmless agreement with the airport for the landing area, waiver of Right to Protest pavement improvement project, submittal of the agreed upon and signed development agreement, and resolution of the annexation and rural water issues involved with the plat

    All of these decisions will move forward as recommendations of approval to the Williston City Commision.
