Six head to High School Finals; NDRA action is heating up

A number of area cowboys and cowgirls will be headed to the National High School Finals starting in Farmington, N.M. Sunday.

Williston's Seth Jorgenson will compete in steer wrestling and team roping. Alexander's Sam Irwin will compete in team roping and Tess Haugen will go in the girls cow cutting and breakaway roping.

Ray's Jessica Bauske will compete in goat tying, Keene's Mamie Kieson will go in breakaway roping and pole bending, while Bronc Pippert of Squaw Gap will compete in steer wrestling and team roping.

The Finals will run through July 26 and updates can be found on the National High School Rodeo Association website at www.nhsra.org, which also will feature a live simulcast of each rodeo performance.

In the North Dakota Rodeo Association landscape, the action has been fast and furious with four rodeos being held recently, the New Town Rodeo, the Bowman Rodeo, and in South Dakota, the Lemmon and Dupree Rodeos. In the NDRA current standings, Williston’s Tom Jorgenson is the top heeler in team roping and Preston Oyloe is ranked second steer wrestling.

Trenton’s Stetson Lawrence is currently second in bull riding, and Williston’s Michelle Oyloe is sixth in ladies breakaway.

New Town Rodeo

Alexander's Ryan Forbes took second in the bareback riding event with a score of 71, while in bull riding Max's Casey Fannik was the only cowboy able to make a ride, but scored 83 to take home the prize money.

In calf roping, Sidney's Cody Flammond was second with a time of 10 seconds flat.

Ladies barrel racing saw Williston's Effie Miller take sixth at 14.106 seconds to just get in on the money. Tess Haugen wasn't too far back at 14.557, while Carmen Ruud of Ross was at 14.567 and Williston's Michelle Oyloe had a 14.573 run.

New Town's Solly Danks took fifth in saddle bronc with a score of 66, and in senior men's breakaway, Sidney's Gene Smith had a time of five seconds flat to tie for fourth.

Williston's Preston Oyloe won in steer wrestling with a 4.4-second run.

Williston's Tom Jorgenson and Dickinson's Chad Kieson won team roping with a time of 5.1 seconds, while Stanley's Jed Bohmbach and Garrison's Frank Whitecalf were second at 5.3.

Bowman County Rodeo

Grassy Butte's Michael Pojorlie made the only ride in bull riding with a 72 score.

Parshall's Preston Billadeau was third in calf roping with a time of 10.6, while Sidney's Rayna Rice was fourth in barrel racing at 16.87.

Parshall's Jessica Billadeau was just in the money in seventh in ladies breakaway at 3.8 seconds, while just out of the money were Stanley's Jodi Bohmbach at 4.8 and Williston's Michelle Oyloe at 4.9.

Williston's Seth Jorgenson mad a 4.1-second run to finish third in steer wrestling, while Watford City's Steve Johnston was just out of the money with a score of 58 in saddle bronc.

Parshall's Preston Billadeau teamed with Upham's Jesse Fredrickson to take sixth in team roping.

Boss Cowman Rodeo (Lemmon)

Williston's Preston Oyloe finished tied for eighth in steer wrestling with a time of 6.3 with Buffalo's Sam Olson.

Trenton's Mac Ladue was a winner in senior men's breakaway with a blazing 1.6-second time.

Billadeau and Fredrickson sere second in team roping at 5.2.

Dupree Pioneer Days Rodeo

Parshall's Preston Billadeau finished sixth in calf roping at 9.4.
