The Williston City Commission, led by the Elks Youth Day students, approved an engineering proposal, scope of work and schematic concept of the work that would be performed for improvements at the Amtrak train depot.

The work would include improvements to the front and back of the Amtrak Depot to facilitate accessibility and storm water drainage issues. The work has a $58,000 T&E Grant to assist in the construction cost. Its construction cost is estimated at $108,000. Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson completed the proposal.

The second portion of the proposal considered was shown in the documents as an alternate additive on the site concept plan and the schematic labeled entrance enhancements to the depot. This would include the portion of the Main Street reconstruction that has a round-about in front of the depot. It also facilitates the storm sewer drainage improvements, along with with access improvements to the parking lot for the Amtrak Depot to be completed in a second construction phase. According to documents, provided by the Williston Public Works Department, only a small portion of this work is cost eligible for T&E Grants. Its cost is $109,000.

In a separate matter, the proxy board members agreed to enter into contract negotiations with Advanced Engineering Services (AE2S) of Bismarck for the 11th Street pump station improvements. The pump station serves as a backup method to provide extra water supplies across town upon high-water consumption days or a major fire.

About $630,000 had been budgeted for the project, but a study indicated work could cost up to $950,000. At Williston Public Works Director Monte Meiers' recommendation, the commission opted to contract with Interstate Engineering for work on Cell No. 4 at the Williston Municipal Landfill. The city has budgeted $300,000 for the construction of the project and also has budgeted money for professional engineering services within the Highway Municipal budget.
