Greetings from the Heritage Center. Many of you know that I've decided to leave the Heritage Center to pursue a career with less responsibility and more time with my family. The Board of Directors is pleased to announce Abraham (AJ) Mock has accepted the position as the new Project Director. AJ comes to us with a background in Sociology, Gerontology, and Economics; he recently passed the exam to become a licensed nursing home administrator. AJ is excited to work with programs for the elderly and our ever-growing transportation program. I know all of you will be pleased to meet AJ and work with him here at the Heritage Center and throughout our three-county region.

We will celebrate Older Americans Day tomorrow at the Heritage Center and still have room for more to come celebrate with us. This year's theme is: "Working Together for Strong, Healthy, Supportive Communities." All persons past the age of 60 are invited to a day of music, readings, food, and fun. Of course we are going to draw for some great door prizes, too! We have easy listening music by Gen Myhre at 10:30 a.m. followed by a welcome by Mayor Ward Koeser at 11 a.m. We will have our meal (swiss steak--yum) at 11:30 am. We'll round out the afternoon with more talent including our Heritage Center Choraleers, the Weyrauch singers, and music by Tim Ritter. To reserve a seat for the meal please call 577-6751; we ask for (but do not require) a $3.00 contribution to help defray meal expenses. Of course our bus can pick you up and bring you home too.

We are glad to welcome new volunteers to our Heritage Center. Delivering meals for us are John Fougner and Joe Sibley. Working in our kitchen as volunteers are Hazel Johnson and Pearl Eoas. With the summer months right around the corner we always welcome more volunteers to give our regulars a break. With kids being out of school and home for the summer it is an opportune time to show them another side of life and do some good for the community as well. If your youth group, family unit, or group of friends is looking for a meaningful project, consider helping us out once per month during the summer. We appreciate it.

The Board of Directors recently approved a new name for our transportation program: Northwest Dakota Public Transit. We recently ordered a new bus and two handicap-accessible mini-vans for our three-county program. In the near future we will be expanding our hours and offering even more services than are currently available. Our transportation services are for everyone to use - we are a dial-a-ride program with plans to serve everyone. Watch for more info in the future regarding our expanded transportation services.
