Parsons employee Don Hochhalter presented an update to the Williams County Commissioners Tuesday regarding the progress of the new Law Enforcement Center.

"We're still working on an updated schedule, but from what I'm seeing from the field is that we're probably looking at completion in October with a November move-in," said Hochhalter.

The three-story building includes over 70,000 square feet and has a partial basement, which has storage for files and also a couple of offices, and a mechanical and electrical room.

"Basically it's going to be housing all of the law enforcement and then half of the project is reserved for the jail," said Hochhalter.

The new jail will house about 112 inmates, and they are in the process of completing all of the glass and glazing except for the main entrance, which was to be finished as of Tuesday. "We will be taking down some of the temporary partitions over on Broadway so that it will look a little more finished. We are in the process of taping and finishing the sheet rock installation, and we have all of the drywall installed in the basement and the first and second floor," he said.

By the end of the week, they are expected to have everything installed on the third floor. In the next few weeks they will be putting down some concrete, and they are expecting to have new asphalt in the parking lot by June.

However, he said that they have been having trouble with the paint color of the jail cell doors.

"All of the jail cell doors are going to be a blue color and they're struggling with trying to get the pigment to work and getting it to adhere to the metal on the doors," he said. "They're trying a couple different techniques and they're supposed to be back onsite today to see if that process is going to work."

In terms of the jail, he said it is a two tiered system and the second and third floor will have jail cells.

"All of the second floor cells are completed, and the crews are working on setting the mezzanine which is the third floor jail cells, and they should be done with that at the end of the week," said Hochhalter.
