COLUMBIA, Mo. - Carissa Gormally and Allison Maxwell continue to make a splash for the University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team.

Both former Williston High School standouts competed in the NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships at Mizzou Aquatics Center over the weekend.

Gormally made the biggest splash, capturing two national titles in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

The UND sophomore and Co-Outstanding NCC Female Swimmer of the YEar captured the 50 freestyle championship with a 22.97-second race on Wednesday, bettering her prelim time of 23.19.

Gormally was the first swimmer from a school other than Drury or Cal State-Bakersfield to win the event since 1998. She doubled up, taking the 100 freestyle race in 50.01. She had also won the prelims with a time of 50.52. The national record is 49.33.

Gormally and Maxwell, also a sophomore, teamed with Cathryn DeShaw of Stillwater, Minn. and Kaylyn Wendroth of Rochester, Minn. to take second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.07.

They also swam with DeShaw and Caycee Anvik of Sidney, Mont. to place fourth in the 400 medley relay in 3:49.66.

Gormally added a third-place showing in the 200 free relay with Stephanie Bachmeier of Mandan, Natalia Busso of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Brittney Jamerson of Charlottesville, Va. with a time of 1:34.69. She swam to a sixth-place finish on the 400 free relay team as well with Busso, Bachmeier and Jamerson.

Maxwell also placed 12th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 1:51.32.

Gormally helped lead the Sioux to a second-place finish at the NCC Championships, with an NCC record time of 51.08 in the 100 free, and also won the 50 free.

She was second in the 100 back and a member of the first-place 400 and 200 free relay events.

Maxwell was a NCC Swimmer of the Week in January as well.

The UND women took third in the team title with 324 points, behind Truman State at 461.5 and Drury University at 449.

The UND men finished fifth. Former Coyote standout Doug Haugen swims for the Sioux men.
