According to Dr. Dawn Olson, vice president of Academic and Student Affairs at Wiliston State College, there is a total of 677 students taking courses at the school this spring.
Comparatively, there were 855 students enrolled in January of 2007, according to school records, amounting to 178 less students.
Of those currently enrolled, 409 are classified as full-time and 268 are part-time.
Comparatively, the spring session of 2007 session showed 446 full-time students and 409 part-time students. "I attribute it to the economy and the job market," Olson said.
WSC's highest spring enrollment levels were during the 2005 session with 965 students enrolled.
"We are seeing a decrease in males on campus," Olson said. She alluded that can be attributed to as strong demand for oil-related workers, and overall there being many good-paying jobs.
"We're maintaining auto and diesel mechanics, but we could fill double the spots," Olson said.
Olson said the mostly female-dominated programs such as nursing and physical therapy assistant remain strong at the school. However, there appears to be a big drop in the massage therapy program students.
The school offers programs in aviation, administrative assistant, agriculture, agronomy technician, computer systems specialist, diesel technology, entrepreneurship, general and technical studies, marketing management, massage therapy, medical transcription, mental health/addictions technician, nursing, para-educator, physical therapist assistant and speech language pathology assistant.
