District 8 names appoints new business manager

The New Public School District 8 Board appointed Thomas Firemoon as its new business manager in a brief Friday evening meeting.

"Putting everything together and the references, the Election Committee of District 8 felt he was the best candidate for the job," said Board President Ed Maisey. "He certainly has the training to do a good job for us."

"It was an extremely difficult decision for us," said Superintendent of Schools Greg McNary related. "Any one of the four candidates could have done the job."

McNary said Firemoon's overall experience helped the board arrive at that decision.

The new business manager was working management at Economart.

Firemoon previously worked doing accounts payable for the San Diego School District, was a loan officer in Poplar, Mont. and did payroll for the Fort Peck Tribes in Montana. He also has a strong background in computers .

McNary said he and retiring business manager of 20 1/2 years Art Gutschmidt would help in the transition, along with other staff members.

McNary said it was hard to find someone to fill Gutschmidt's shoes.

"Art is as close to irreplaceable as you can get. We thank him for all his years of service." McNary said.
