ND prevails in border battle

North Dakota nearly swept Montana in the Mon-Dak Shoot-Out at "The Well" Saturday. In eight Class B girls basketball games, North Dakota teams won seven of them.

Capping the night, Trenton held off Froid-Medicine Lake 43-39 and Beach bumped Fairview 60-47. Ray was the only North Dakota team to fall, losing to a tough Lambert squad 50-43. Also, North Shore-Plaza ran past Bainville 64-36, Tioga topped Culbertson 50-34, Grenora-Westby shut down Savage 52-18, Parshall dumped Richey 58-36 and Powers Lake powered past Trinity Christian 75-18.

On Friday, New Town got a big District 16 win holding off Stanley 42-40 on the road.

Trenton 43, F-ML 39

Froid-Medicine Lake led 22-21 at the break, but Trenton came back to lead 31-29 after three quarters. The Tigers played with the lead the whole fourth quarter to hold off the Red Hawks for the win. Hannah Ness paced Trenton with 17 points and seven boards, while Trudi Slow had 10 points and 14 boards. Taylor McCormick added seven points.

Leading F-ML was Chelsie Anderson with 17 points, while Jacey Four Bear added 12 points and 13 boards.

Beach 60, Fairview 47

Beach jumped out to a 30-19 lead at the half and held a 10-point lead most of the second half. Leading Beach was Jill Rising with 12 points off the bench, while Teal Waldal and Emily Hardy each scored 10.

Fairview's Katie Hardy led all scorers with 24 points, while Morgan Klose added 18 points.

Lambert 50, Ray 43

It was a battle of top players as Lambert's Haley Mindt put up 30 points to get the better of Ray's Samantha Heier who scored 24.

Lambert grabbed the lead 14-11, and even though the Lions couldn't quite shake the Jays, they maintained the lead throughout.

Heier also added eight points and four steals for Ray, while Adrian Liesener added eight points and eight boards to go with six assists. Rachel Anderson chipped in seven points.

Mindt tallied five steals for Lambert, while Dominique Irigoin scored eight points and Danielle Irigoin scored seven.

Bainville stumbled offensively in the middle quarters with just six points apiece in the second and third quarters.

North Shore-Plaza was led by Katie Brandt’s 26 points and eight boards, while Emily Brandt added 12 points and Jamie Larson scored eight. Alicia Rogers chipped in nine rebounds and five assists.

Bainville was paced by Sasha Panasuk’s 17 points and five steals, followed by Lindsey Nelson with nine points. Lindsey Nelson pulled down 11 rebounds and Kylie Bonebrake added 10.

Tioga 50, Culbertson 34

Tioga ran out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and protected it the rest of the way.

Leading the Lady Pirates was Brenna Moore with 15 points and eight boards, while Shelby Carlson scored eight and Karli Olson chipped in seven.

Culbertson had five players with four points, including Morgan Martell, Karli Larsen, Megan Gourneau, Tami Ruffato and Kellie Emerson.

Parshall 58, Richey 36

Richey hung with Parshall most of the first half, trailing just 28-21 at the break, but the Royals ran out of gas as Parshall held them to 15 points in the second half.

The Braves were led by Summer White Twin's 17 points, while Samantha Risan scored 16 and Kaycee Packineau added 10.

Risan also tallied 10 steals and four assists, while Packineau collected nine boards.

Richey was led by Jennifer Trotter with 18 points and 10 boards, followed by Naomi Jensen and Marleigh Senner with eight points each.

Savage couldn't find the range from the field, with just 16 percent shooting in the game. The Savage Lady Warriors had two three-pointers in the second quarter by Andrea Swisse and Latoya Neiffer to make up a 28-8 Gophers halftime lead.

Grenora-Westby put the game away with an 18-4 third quarter.

Samantha Olson led the Gophers with 11 points and 12 boards, along with eight assists, while Alison Carlson had eight points and 10 boards and Kylie Ryals added seven points and 11 rebounds. Jonni Muller also added eight points for the Gophers who shot 47 percent in the second half.

Swisse led Savage with nine points and Neiffer added five.

The Crusaders couldn't find another gear offensively as they put up single digit quarters throughout. TCS struggled to 15 percent shooting from the field and had just two players score.

Alice Trottier led TCS with 11 points and 11 boards, while Megan Telehey scored seven.

Powers Lake had four players in double figures with 12 points apiece from Katy Clark and Samantha Jorgenson, while Nikita Elijah and Paige Hoiby each scored 10. Cassie DeFreece chipped in 12 rebounds and four assists to go with three steals and Breanna Tande added eight boards. Jorgenson also tacked on four steals.

NT 42, Stanley 40

STANLEY - Stanley tied the game at 28 going into the fourth quarter, but Christine Miller scored six of the Eagles' points to hold off the Blue Jays 14-12 in the final stanza.

Miller finished with a game-high 17 points, followed by Shanice Lambert and Kristen Mason each scored eight.

Stanley was paced by Kyli Locken's 14 points, while Jori Fladeland added 12 and Rachel Mehus scored seven.
