Williston children will have a unique opportunity this October as the Shriners bring their world-famous orthopedic care to western North Dakota.

A free evaluation clinic for services from the Shriners Hospital for Children will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at the Craven Hagen Clinic in Mercy Medical Center, located at 1213 15th Ave. W. in Williston.

This is the first time a clinic like this one has been offered in Williston, said Shriner Bruce Krabseth. Similar programs have been run in Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks.

"Usually a family has to travel to Minneapolis for an evaluation," Krabseth said. "This allows for evaluation here in Williston."

If a child is found to be eligible for services through the Shriners, they will receive that care in Minneapolis at the Shriners Hospital for Children. All care is privately funded, allowing it to be provided completely free of charge to the family.

The local chapter pays the transportation costs to Minneapolis, along with other expenses such as lodging on a case-by-case basis.

The Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis offers orthopedic medical care to any child 17 or younger with a condition that affects the bones, muscles or joints.

The hospital provides care for:

  • Arm, hand, foot, leg and other deformities, missing limbs and limb-length differences

  • Athrogryposis, stiff joints

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Hip problems

  • Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Myelodysplasia, Spina Bifida

  • Neurological disorders

  • Osteogenesis Imperfecta

  • Post-traumatic deformities

  • Plastic surgery, burn scars

  • Rickets

  • Spine deformities,

  • Sports injuries

To make an appointment, contact Bruce Krabseth at 570-4148. Krabseth said walk-ins are also welcome.

If you are unable to attend the clinic but would like more information, contact Krabseth or the hospital directly, at (888) 293-2832.
