Local ropers dominate team roping in Minot By The Williston HeraldA number of area cowboys and cowgirls were quite successful in recent action in the North Dakota High School Rodeo Association. At the Minot High School Rodeo, area ropers swept the top two spots in team roping as Watford City’s Lucas Thompson and Charlie Pennington of Sidney, Mont. teamed up to win the event in 9.060 seconds. Taking second was the team of Alexander’s Sam Irwin and Sidney’s Bronc Pippert in 10.500. Alexander’s Tess Haugen also was a winner, tying for first in the girls cow cutting event with a score of 71, which also was the mark given to Minot’s Maren Larson. Watford City’s Mamie Kieson was all alone atop the breakaway roping event with a time of 2.920, while Haugen took third in 3.610. Williston’s Seth Jorgenson had a good run to place second in steer wrestling with a time of 5.190 seconds, and in goat tying, Ray’s Jessica Bauske was third with a 9.100 time. At the Watford City High School Rodeo, Pippert was a winner in the steer wrestling event with a 3.720 time, while Jorgenson was third at 4.420 and Pennington was ninth at 14.180. Haugen finished fifth in barrel racing with a time of 15.710, was seventh in breakaway roping at 5.160 and score a 71.5 to place second in girls cow cutting, just .5 points behind Hazen’s Rebecca Chase. Bauske placed third in goat tying with a 7.750 time, while Watford City’s Karlee Hanna was 10th in 9.730. Trenton’s Charann Lawrence finished fifth in pole bending with a time of 21.863. In team roping, Thompson and Pennington paired once again to take second with a time of 10.170, while Jorgenson teamed up with Clay Brinkman of Golden Valley to take fourth at 13.980, and Irwin and Pippert were seventh at 15.900. Watford City’s Cash Johnson and Beulah’s Kassi Eide were eighth at 17.480. |
