The hills are alive with the ‘Sound of Music’

Entertainment, Inc! will open it's 2007-2008 season in October with "The Sound of Music," a Broadway musical made famous by the 1965 movie. The actors were cast this week, according to Director B. Michael Quale. He said between 55 and 60 people auditioned for the first show that marks Entertainment, Inc!'s 25th anniversary as a community theater group.

"It's a very popular play," Quale said. "It takes a pretty large cast."

He noted the cast numbering around 40 will have only one month to rehearse before the play premieres at the Old Armory Theatre. Quale said he has directed The Sound of Music previously but that Entertainment, Inc! has never performed the production in Williston. The theater group was urged to do the classic tale of the von Trapp family with music by Richard Rogers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

"We need to open with a family musical - one that people know and love," Quale said. "We're doing a music heavy season."

He said the stage musical first opened on Broadway in 1959, which was so favored that Hollywood made it into a movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Captain von Trapp. It is loosely based on the true story of the von Trapp family who fled Nazi-occupied Austria. "We're hoping to have a full house," Quale said.

Dates for the musical are Oct. 5-8 and Oct. 11-14. The evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on both Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The lead characters are played by Tara Morenski as Maria and Phil Jore as Captain von Trapp. Actors in the role as the von Trapp children are Emily Black as Liesl, Clara Reinke as Louisa, Austin Anderson as Friedrich, Mary Reinke as Brigitta, Colt Ryan as Kurt, Renae Evenson as Marta, Emily Morenski as Hilda, Christopher Pozgay as Karl and Ann Reinke as Gretel.

Other actors starring in the play are Travis Gudmunsen, Sarah Haugen, Jay Reinke, Eric Pozgay, Isaiah Jung, Laura Anderson, Schatzi Jore, Josh Johnson, Vern Ryan, C'Dale Jore, Brad Dokken, Ann Ronning, Heidi Ryen, Kathy Evenson, Mona Craft and Russell Larson.

The cast also includes Katrina Leintz, Beth Ryan, Angela Lindvig, Rachael Richter, Krystal Evenson, Stephanie Lorenz, Jennifer Sommerfeld, Penny Pozgay, Joy Johansen, Susan LaBar, Kristi Marshall and Mary Jo Harstad.

"It's a big undertaking," Quale said, referring to the number of actors.
