The Williston Public School District 1 Finance Committee made a series of recommendations Monday that apply to the 2007-2008 school budget.

Salary pay schedules were recommended for aquatics instructors and lifeguards for the E.J. Hagan Aquatics Center, also known as the indoor swimming pool.

Base pay for a lifeguard/aquatics center director without experience is $7.25 per hour. A lifeguard/aquatics instructor with 17 years of experience would receive $11.75 per hour.

In a related matter, Denbea Quinlan was recently recommended to be hired as the new aquatics center director. She previously held that post for the Williston Park Board when it ran the swimming pool.

The school district recently acquired operation of the pool during a dispute with the Williston Park Board over a mill levy the school district rescinded for the park district. The matter of the mill levy has been turned over to the North Dakota Attorney General's Office for an opinion. Both parties have agreed to accept whatever decision that state office makes. The Finance Committee also recommended a series of Classified pay schedules be accepted by the full school board in its regular September board meeting.

These include;

  • Para I workers, lunch aides and non-CDL beginning with a salary of $7.30/hour base pay and would reach their salary cap at $11.94 per hour (after 17 years of experience).

  • Para II workers and food service assistants starting with a base pay of $7.80 per hour and would cap at $12.49 per hour.

  • Para III workers begininning with a base pay of $8.05 per hour, with a cap of $12.76.

  • Tutors beginning at a $10.30 per hour base pay, receiving $19.86 per hour at cap.

  • Tutor II (certified or credentialed) starting at $17 per hour base pay, capping at $22.95 per hour.

  • Food service specialist and librarian beginning at $8.30 per hour for base pay and making $13.04 per hour after 17 years.

  • Food service manager starting at $9.55 per hour for base pay, and making $14.41 per hour at cap.

  • Central food service specialist starting at $8.55 per hour for a base pay, and after 17 years of experience, earning $11.75 per hour.

  • Custodians starting at $8.30 per hour on the base pay, with a cap of $13.04 per hour.

  • Head custodian at the elementary schools starting with a base pay of $9.05 per hour. After 17 years of experience, the person would earn $13.56 per hour.

  • Head custodian secondary, starting with a base pay of $9.80 per hour. After 17 years, the person would earn $14.69 per hour.

  • Bus drivers/grounds maintenance workers would begin with a base pay of $9.30 per hour, capping at $14.14 per hour.

  • Williston High School manager of transportation would begin with a base salary of $9.80 per hour, and $15.24 at cap.

  • Secretaries would begin with base pay of $9.30 per hour, with a cap of $14.63 after 17 years.

The committee recommended that bus driver pay schedules increase from $5.75 per hour during a bus layover to $7 per hour.

It also recommended that mileage compensation hike from 30 cents to 45 cents per mile.

Committee members noted they are still seeking to fill the position of curriculum/school improvement director.
