According to spokeswoman Kathy Fagerland, months of preparation have gone into marking the century mark for the community event.
Registration begins at 7 p.m. Friday at the Noonan Community Center, the former Noonan school building. There participants will find centennial buttons, caps and T-shirts for sale.
A street dance featuring a performance by Dervin Wallin kicks off the weekend activities from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The celebration continues with an itinerary chock full of activities Saturday. Registration continues at the Noonan Community Center. Plus, everyone is urged to sample the wares of the Lions Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Participants of the parade also are asked to register from 8 to 10 a.m.
“There will be a film showing Noonan's coal mining history throughout the day,” said Fagerland.
Saturday's parade begins at 11 a.m. with the line-up starting at the elevator.
From noon to 6 p.m., there will be a rock-climbing wall, and an the Iron Man inflatable apparatus for the younger age set.
Noonan's 100 years as a town will also have its own stamp to designate the event. A special stamp cancellation commemorating the centennial event will be held from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Noonan Community Center.
At 2:45 p.m., there will be a flag ceremony, involving two flags that have flown over the North Dakota State Capitol grounds in Bismarck, and a U.S. flag which flew in Washington D.C.
That is followed by the style show at 3 p.m. at the Community Center. “Our show will run through the decades. It will include old military uniforms and wedding dresses, and there will be some items from more recent decades as well,” Fargerland said.
A catered KFC supper will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Noonan Community Center.
The Variety Show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Noonan Community Center. Raffle drawings will be held during the show.
“A lot of preparation went into the show,” Fagerland noted. “Noonan used to be known for having variety shows. We'll have imitations like Al Jolson, quartets and comedy skits. Tom and Mary Dhuyvetter will be doing George Burns and Gracie Allen.”
The RIFT Band will be performing at the street dance from 9 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday.
July 1 opens with an 8:30 a.m. continental breakfast, catered by Adams of Fortuna.
Worship service is slated for 9 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church and a 9 a.m. Mass will be held at St. Luke's in Noonan at 9 a.m. that Sunday.
An Ecuminical service begins at 11 a.m. at the Noonan Community Center. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tom Greaves the Rev. Ted Greaves. Speaking at the event will be the Rev. Dale Fagerland. A variety of local talent will participate in the service.
