Top horse trainer to offer workshop in area

Thomas A. Kvamme, Sports Scope

Area horse lovers are in for a special treat this weekend as a workshop featuring world-renowned trainer, lecturer and author Dan Sumerel is scheduled in conjunction with the Cedar Coulee Pintabians.

Sumerel, who hails from Virginia, will bring his horse workshop to the area and will provide the tools to influence those behaviors without force or relying on equipment.

This two-day event, hosted by Lynn and Brian Brubaker, will be held in an indoor arena on their ranch, which is located 22 miles east of Williston off of Hwy. 1804.

The sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

OPEN FOR AUDITORS

As of this writing the field is full for horses; however, Lynn tells us they can still accept auditors.

That means you can join in at a cost of $95 for both days or $60 for the Saturday session and observe.

Lynn indicated this is something that will "fit" everyone from rodeo competitors to pleasure riders.

"You can learn just as much from watching; it will be that good," said Lynn.

FREDRICKSEN HONORED

We would like to pass along some great news regarding the son of former Williston residents Rick and Corky Fredricksen.

Rick and Corky graduated from Williston High School in 1972 and made the move out West in 1989, while numerous family members remain in this area.

We have learned their son Cody, the grandson of Dennis Fredricksen and Marge and Emil Skurdal of Williston, was recently named to the All-Conference, All-Region and All-State soccer team in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Cody was a senior mid-fielder and helped lead his Rock Springs Tigers to a third-place finish at the state tournament and finished the season as the leading scorer on his team with nine goals and seven assists.

He will now be attending the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in the fall pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, while participating with the Hardrockers Soccer Club.

It's always fun to pass along this kind of report and we add our congratulations on a great senior season.

In conjunction with the many festivities scheduled at the historic Fort Union Trading Post next weekend, you will be able to take part in the 14th annual Fort Union Rendezvous Run, which is sponsored by American State Bank & Trust Co., of Williston.
