Williston Public Works Director Monte Meiers confirmed Tuesday that he had received preliminary plans for a 203,500 square-foot building to be placed on 22 acres.
Assistant City Planner Elaine Sinness also confirmed a preliminary plat has arrived for the project at the city building department. She said the area in question would have to be rezoned from light industrial status to commercial before construction could begin.
A March 21 public hearing with the Williston Planning and Zoning Commission at City Hall will be held to discuss the plat and rezoning process. Time of the meeting will be announced at a later date.
City Planner and Building Official Doug Lalim said the portion of Fourth Avenue West, where the proposed purchase is to occur, would be vacated south of 42nd, and would be replatted into one block instead of eight or 10 lots Sinness said a series of public hearings will be announced about the project before city officials make a decision.
The final approval on the sale of the city-owned property must come from the Williston City Commission.
On Sept. 14, commissioners appointed a negotiating committee to consider an initial offer of $686,901 for the property from the Wal-Mart Corp. through the R.J. Johnson Company of Kansas City, Mo.
That bid allowed for a $25,000 earnest deposit for the first 180-day period that would be refundable and applicable to the purchase price. It also allowed for another 90-day extension for another $25,000 which would be non-refundable.
