STANLEY - It looked a little like the Wild West in the District 15 Boys Basketball Tournament with shootouts and top guns being knocked off.

Watford City and Stanley will play for the top seed in the District at Stanley High School Monday. In the semifinals Saturday, No. 4 Watford City shocked No. 1 New Town 53-39, while No. 2 Stanley had to break away from No. 6 Mandaree in the final minute to win 68-58.

In loser-out games, No. 3 Parshall sent No. 7 White Shield home 78-50, while No. 4 North Shore-Plaza got a bye.

Watford City and Stanley will square off for the title at 7:30 p.m. Monday, after Mandaree and North Shore-Plaza play at 4 p.m., and Parshall and New Town play at 5:45p.m. in region qualifying games.

It was a bit of a wild first round on Friday as well. In the nightcap, Mandaree pulled off a 58-57 upset of Parshall in the final second, while North Shore-Plaza led Watford City for a half before falling 61-43.

Stanley didn't have as much to sweat over dumping White Shield 75-49, while New Town didn't sweat at all with a first-round bye.

Stanley 68, Mandaree 58

Mandaree pushed the Blue Jays the entire game as the teams traded late leads, but Stanley's Lance Hollinger got a key bucket and steal to push the Blue Jays up a bit forcing the Warriors to foul which helped Stanley pull away.

Hollinger paced Stanley with 25 points, while Layne Fluhrer added 12 and Kellen Leupp had 11.

Mandaree was led by Louden Smith's 29 game-high points, which included six three-pointers, three coming in the fourth quarter. Mychal Mann had 11 points and Kenny Smith added 10.

Fans from both teams gave the little seventh-grade guard a standing ovation.
