Inc! to perform Moon Over Buffalo

Published/Last Modified on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 3:57 PM CDT

The stage of the Old Armory Theatre is filled with the sights and sounds of actors in rehearsal, scenery being constructed and lights and sound equipment being focused and adjusted as Entertainment, Inc! prepares for the community theatre production of Moon Over Buffalo.

This fast paced adult comedy by Ken Ludwig was first presented on Broadway in 1995. It starred Carol Burnett in the role of Charlotte Hay, a middle-aged actress who along with her husband George have spent their lives "on the road" as an acting duo. Judy Billehus and Mike Daniels veteran Inc! performers, will portray the acting couple.

The production is set in 1953, on stage and back stage at the Erlanger theatre in Buffalo, New York. The Hay's are currently engaged in a repertory theatre production where they alternate plays. One evening they perform "Private Lives'" by Noel Coward, and the next evening "Cyrano de Bergerac."

With a strange twist of fate, the couple is given a shot at starring rolls in a movie epic as the famous director Frank Capra himself is en route to Buffalo to catch their matinee performance. Will Charlotte Hay appear, or run off with her agent (Jim Ryen). Will George Hay be sober enough to perform? Will Capra see "Cyrano," Private Lives" or a disturbing mixture of the two?

Hilarious misunderstandings are magnified by Charlotte's deaf mother (Vicki Scheldrup), who manages the theatre. Adding to the confusion are the Hays supporting players Eileen (Angle Lundby) and Paul (J.C. LaBar) along with their daughter Rosalind (Stephanie Richter) and her weatherman fianc/, Howard (Eric Pozgay). "Moon over Buffalo " performances will be presented in a "rather unique" schedule according to artistic director B. Michael Quale.

It will open with a 7:30 p.m. Thursday performance, followed by dinner theatre Friday. The theatre will be "dark" Saturday to facilitate another community event in the Old Armory."

Sunday will feature a 2:30 p.m. matinee and the final performance is slated for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The dinner theatre performance will begin at the Elk's lodge with a social hour at 6 p.m. and the meal being served at 6:30 p.m. The menu will feature mixed salad greens with fruit and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing, tenderloin with Bournaise sauce, twice-baked potatoes with cheese, fresh green beans with slivered almonds.

Following the meal, dinner theatre guests will adjourn to the Old Armory theatre for the performance and a cheesecake dessert, which will be served at intermission.

Reservations are required for the dinner theatre as seating is limited and must be made by Thursday. To reserve seats call Entertainment, Inc! Box Office at 577-3179.

All other performances will be held at the Old Armory where tickets may be reserved or purchased at the door.

"Audience members will be treated to an evening of hilarity," explains Quale, "However, it does contain adult situations and prime time television language.

Moon Over Buffalo is the final production of Entertainment, Inc!'s 2003/2004 season.
